Rother is a local government district in East Sussex. The district has a population of 92,130 as of mid-2014. The name of the district is derived from the River Rother, which flows within the district.

Like many British government districts, Rother was formed on the 1st April 1974, through a merger of the Municipal Borough of Bexhill, the Municipal Borough of Rye and the Battle Rural District. Rother is one of three districts within the county without borough status.

Bexhill-on-Sea is the largest town in the district, with a population of 41,173, and consequently it acts as the commercial hub of the area. It is the home of the De La Warr Pavilion- a Grade I Listed Building, which today acts a modern art gallery and performance hall. It's exhibitions have featured the work of Andy Warhol amongst others, as well as comedians such as Lee Evans and authors such as Michael Morpurgo in the performance hall.
